Distorted playback after importing a midi file into Songtrix

Hi All,
I'm new to Songtrix software and to this community.
I use ScoreWriter, but I'm no musician by any stretch. I'm hoping that after I become proficient using Songtrix that it will speed up the process of making recordings to CDs for accompaniment for singers.
I have some melodies recorded on ScoreWriter and I imported a MIDI file from SW into Songtrix. The audio playback was of low volume and had muffled, distorted audio. I discovered accidentally that if I turned the metronome ON that the audio playback was normal. However for a performance the metronome sound is unwanted.
I experimented and found that the metronome could be turned off via the Song Setup drop down near the top of the page. That removed the distortion without the metronome sound being recorded to a CD.
I hope my discovery helps someone who might have a similar problem.
