Searching for chordshapes allows you to explore your instrument and generate new chordshapes that fit the criteria you are looking for. These chordshapes can be added to the current library for future reference.
If the chordshape you want to find already exists in the current library, you do not need to use searching, as you will be able to find it more easily using just by using a filter. In general, you should check the library first to see if it contains any suitable chordshapes before starting a search.
Searching is extremely powerful, allowing you to find every possible chordshape on your instrument that fits the current filter, and Searching settings.
The filter specifies how you want the chordshape to sound, and the searching settings specify the quality and difficulty of the chordshapes you are interested in.
Searching tends to focus on specific criteria when finding chordshapes, for example a particular chord. A similar process can be used to automatically generate chordshapes for every chord when populating new libraries.
In previous versions of ChordWizard, the Search function was called Suggestions.
Search Order
Chordshapes are always suggested either forwards or backwards in the default sort order, which can be either by chordshape digits, or by hand position.
With both sorting methods, all possible chordshapes on the fretboard are considered as ChordWizard scans through, finding the chordshapes which satisfy both the filter and the searching settings.
In general, sorting by hand position is more convenient, as it keeps together chordshapes which appear in particular regions of the fretboard.
Searching in Design View
The Search function is available in Design View, where it suggests suitable new chordshape designs that you can use, instead of manually designing your own,
You can search for the prior or next suitable chordshape (by default sort order) with the following commands. The starting point for the search is the currently displayed chordshape design.
| Button | Menu |
| Chordshape-Search Prior | |
| Chordshape-Search Next | |
| Chordshape-Search List |
Searching Options
Several areas of settings can affect the chordshapes which appear in the search results.
Most important are the filter and Searching settings, but the matching parameters in the Indexing settings will also affect the matching chords that may cause a chordshape to be found, and of course, the instrument and tuning will affect the placement of the notes on strings.
With these areas of control, you can effortlessly scan the entire fretboard for chordshape possibilities that precisely suit what you are looking for.
