Playing in time is very important in both solo or group situation, so that the music can develop a solid and consistent groove.
The Metronome tool in ChordWizard helps you develop your sense of timing by providing a steady beat to practice playing chords or melodies with.
Step-By-Step
Step 1
You can open the metronome with the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+M | Tools-Metronome |
The Metronome window will appear on top of the workspace.
Step 2
Before we start, we need to tell it how many beats are per bar are in the song you are playing, and select this in the Period dropdown list.
Most songs use 4/4 timing, or a period of 4 beats. However, there are several other. Use the following as a guide.
2 Beats - for 2/4 time
3 Beats - for 3/4, 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8 time
4 Beats - for 4/4 or common time
5 Beats - for 5/4 time
Step 3
To start the metronome, press the Play button as shown. If this button has the focus, you can also use the Space or Enter keys to start it.
While the metronome is playing, you can change its Tempo or speed. This is measured in beats per minute (bpm). A higher bpm makes the metronome play faster.
Use the slider bar or enter the new Tempo setting in the field provided.
Step 4
While the metronome is running, you also get a visual display as it counts the beats in each bar.
Leave it running for as long as you are playing, to help you keep time properly.
When you want to stop the metronome, press the Stop button as shown. If the Play button still has the focus, you can also use the Space or Enter keys to stop it.
