While the Topic List gives you a clear overview of the topics and tutorials, it is sometimes more convenient to do a text search for a topic you are seeking.
You may be unsure if a subject is covered in the tutorials, or simply trying to remember where a concept was mentioned earlier in the tutorials.
A text search can quickly answer these questions, and can be accessed with the following command:
| Button | Menu |
| Tutorials-Search Topics |
The Search Topics window will open as shown.
Controls
Find
Enter here the text you want to search for, which can be a word or a phrase up to 32 characters long. The search will find all topics which contain an exact match, or which contain a match starting with your search term.
For example, a search term of chord will match with chords but not harpsichord.
Search
Starts the search process, which is usually very quick. The entire set of tutorials is searched, and the results are displayed below in the Found Topics list.
Found Topics
This list contains the titles of all topics which match with your search term. They are listed in order as they appear in the tutorials.
The number of results is shown in the list caption, shown above as Found 5 Topic(s). This can be quite a large number, for common terms such as chord. In this case the first topic listed will often contain the best explanation of the term.
If any results are found, the first topic in the list is selected automatically. You can change the selection to any other topic by clicking with the mouse or press the arrow keys.
Go To
Closes the Search Topics window and opens the selected topic in the Found Topics list.
Cancel
Closes the Search Topics windows and take no action. This can be used before or after a search.
Help
Opens Music Theory Help at this topic.
