ChordWizard makes it easy to identify matching chords for chordshapes, a process described in another topic.

But ChordWizard can also identify chords from notes played on the piano, or by ensemble groups.  By entering the notes being played, you get access to the same accurate matching process used for chordshapes.

Let's say we have played the notes C, E and A on the piano and we want to know what chord it is.

Step-By-Step

Step 1

To identify our notes, we are going to use one of the workspace tools, the Notes To Chords window.  We can open this with the following command:

ButtonMenu
Tools-Notes To Chords

Step 2

The Notes To Chords window appears on top of the workspace.  The Notes area at the left contains a button for each note that can be pressed.

We need to select our notes in the Notes area as shown.

Step 3

As soon as the notes are entered, the Chords list at the right shows us the matching chords for these notes.  The best choices appear at the top of the list.

For our notes, the Am chord is clearly the best match.  There are two other possibilities, C6 and Fmaj7, but these are both missing a note which would normally be in these chords.
