ChordWizard normally works with fretboard length of 14 frets. This gives the best display on the screen, and is usually the highest fret that can be easily reached on instruments such as the acoustic guitar.
However, small-bodied instruments such as the banjo, and electric guitars with a cutaway section, can often access several extra frets above this.
If you wish, the fretboard in ChordWizard can be extended up to 19 frets to provide better support in these cases.
Step-By-Step
Step 1
The fretboard length of existing libraries cannot usually be changed, because it might invalidate chordshapes stored in the library.
The solution is to create a new library with a longer fretboard and import the chordshapes from the original library. The New Library process makes this quite easy, and can be started with the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+N | File-New Library |
Step 2
The first step of the New Library process is the Setup page.
Select your Playing Level, and in the Library Chordshapes area, select Import an Existing Library.
Press Next > to proceed to the next step.
Step 3
The second step of the New Library process is the Instrument page.
From the Type and Tuning dropdown lists, select the same instrument and tuning that you are using in the existing library.
From the Length dropdown list, extend the fretboard to 19 frets, or your preferred number of frets.
Press Finish to create the new library.
Step 4
The Import Library window will now appear. Select the filename of your original library and press OK.
The Import Options window will now appear. It contains several settings for converting chordshape between different instruments.
These are not relevant here, since the instruments and tunings are the same. Just press OK to continue.
Step 5
You will be asked to confirm the import operation, so press OK to complete the import operation.
You now have all your original chordshapes in a new library with a longer fretboard.
Step 6
The new library will need to be saved, with the following command:
| Button | Key | Menu |
| Ctrl+S | File-Save Library |
ChordWizard will select a default filename for you, depending on the playing level, instrument and tuning you selected.
If you wish, you can simply overwrite the original library, or you can save the new library under a different filename.
