Manuals

The New Scale Type window opens when you press the New button in the Scale Types page.

It allows you to add scale types (of your own design) to the list of scale types that ChordWizard makes available throughout the workspace.

A new scale type must have a unique combination of degrees, and a unique name not already used by another scale type in the list.

Controls

Name

Here you can enter a name for your scale type, such as Dorian b5 shown in the example above.

Active

Specifies whether the new scale type will be initially active.  Usually this is what you want.

Add to End

Specifies whether the new scale type will be placed at the end of the Scale Types list or whether it will be inserted before the current selection.

Play Scale Type

Auditions the sound of the new scale type as currently defined.

Degree Names

Some of the possible degrees of a scale type can have alternate names.  The buttons above the grid allow you to modify these degree names if you use them in your new scale type.

The alternatives are #1/b2, #2/b3, 3/b4, #4/b5, #5/b6, 6/bb7 and #6/b7

Include Degrees

The row of buttons below the grid allows you to select which degrees to include in your new scale type.  Every scale type must have between two and twelve degrees, one of which must be the root (1).

OK

Attempts to add the new scale type.  If successful, closes the window, otherwise shows a message explaining the problem.

Cancel

Closes the window without adding the new scale type.
