I started taking piano lessons with a local teacher in Alabama at the age of 12. I started playing for the church that my family attended after taking lessons for 3 months. I continued studying with my teacher for almost 4 years. After graduating High School, I received an invitation to audition for piano scholarships at Jacksonville State University. I realized that many of the candidates auditioning had studied and practiced many more years than me. However, I still completed my audition successfully and received a notification that I had been awarded one a few piano scholarships within a few weeks. I began as a music major but changed my major after 18 months of studying music at JSU. After 7 years, I felt a need to stop studying music and explore other areas of interest. I still continued to play; but much of desire to become a composer/teacher had left me. I have within the past two years returned to studying music composition with material either bought or found on the internet. So, all the best to everyone whether one is just started or has been studying music for years. One can never learn too much in this field.
