Hey, I learned the modes correctly the first time, then learned another way to play which sounds great, but not sure the theory behind it.  Would love an explanation of why it works! Example: playing say Cmaj I would play a A#maj scale for Dorian, G#maj scale for Phrygian, G Maj for Lydian ETC. Basically using the same major scale PATTERN , but starting on the note that corresponded with where the C was in the scale ie. first note of pattern, then the second note of pattern, then the third ETC..Thanks to any response!
